The Elephants of Kruger Park
Excerpt from Christi’s journal:
Kruger Park was amazing. We had two days off in South Africa and all our friends were busy. We weren’t sure what to do with ourselves, so I had the idea of going to Kruger (because Ron always talks about Kruger). We stayed at a really nice bed and breakfast outside the park and when we got there the owner let us use his big tall van both days, for free, so we could see the animals better! What a blessing. The second day we saw 50 elephants, we had counted 49 (whole families with babies) and then just as we drove up to the gates to leave there was one more big elephant right at the gate to make an even 50. We also saw Cape Buffalo, Giraffes, Zebras, male and female Kudus, monkeys, baboons, wart hogs galore, wildebeest, hippos, rhinos!!!! The only thing we didn’t see were cats, no lions or leopards.
All Aboard the Marco Polo Bus!
Bus Trip from Francistown, Botswana to Maun, Botswana
This morning we woke up at 4:30 a.m. it was cold and dark, wintertime in Africa. We hurried to get ready and pack the last of our belongings and then Bro. Charles Matambo came and picked us up.
We went to the Francistown Bus Station and there were several big luxurious looking coaches that gave us hope of a cushy ride, but alas, they were all going to Gaberone. We found out ours was the not so luxurious big bus that said Marco Polo and had Maun posted up in the windscreen. We got on board and sat towards the back on hard narrow plastic seats, so we could keep an eye out for our luggage whenever they picked up more passengers and opened up the outside compartment. Our luggage kept going out on the sandy ground and then back in again so they could put more behind it.
A Wonderfully Full Easter
We had a wonderful Easter reconnecting with our former students that we taught about 23 years ago! Some of them are now in charge of this big region of the AFM (Apostolic Faith Mission) and they invited Ron to be the speaker for their 3 day Easter Conference. It was so amazing to watch them enjoying the Lord, and each other, and Ron’s colorful preaching. He preached 3 times for them on Friday, twice on Saturday, and then at the Sunrise Service on Sunday! We had wonderful altar services too! Loads of singing, dancing, pageantry, etc. Then we went up to the Eastern Cape to another meeting that Ron preached as well and we had Easter dinner there with the Pastor and leaders afterwards. They had a baptism service before we got there with 61 people baptized. They had already had a wedding, and the bride and groom were sitting there. They looked beautiful! They had done all this and we got there by 10:30 a.m. Then they sang, and sang and did special dances for us, then Ron preached! We loved everything that happened.
Last Day in Limuru
All is well here. I just finished packing our suitcases for leaving the house at 5 a.m. tomorrow morning. The Limuru Pastors gave us a big beautiful copper picture and we have been trying to package it up with foam rubber to somehow carry on. A major feat. Ron, David Cerar, Jacob Mills, and Mary–Dave’s secretary were all working on it a while ago, lol!
