Why Ireland and why now?
MERRY CHRISTMAS
From Ron & Christi Bishop, on assignment in Ireland
Christi and I wish you and yours a very Happy, Healthy, Prosperous and Blessed Christmas and New Year. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this time.
Reporting on our ministry in Ireland
Hello from the Republic of Ireland, where nearly everything is green, and the people are friendly. We are based in the southern tip of Ireland where the grass is still green even though the weather has turned quite cold. We have been here for nearly three months and are feeling at home. We have made so many friends; are learning the culture and have also been studying the history of Ireland. Please, take 2 minutes and view our video of our plans to come to Ireland in the first place:
If you’d like to know more about Ireland’s history, here is an enjoyable video of “The Complete History of Ireland” (A Full documentary).

We have taken on an assignment, in response to invitations from a number of friends from all across this Emerald Island. Please do not think I am trying to paint this as a utopian assignment, but you must realize that we do feel that this nation is lovely, the people are friendly and the opportunity is well worth all we can muster in our response to their openness.
Current News – What’s Happening Now?
We have had a lot of meetings and appointments, but Ron has also been writing Blogs. The Blog is called, “The Bishop Chronicle”, and can be found on Face Book and our website: www.ShepherdShapers.com
He is also well into writing a new book, “All the Africans in the Bible”. Christi has also enjoyed regularly hosting a group of ladies in our home for times of prayer.
This month Ron preached twice at Grace Church in Cork. We attend this church regularly when we aren’t ministering elsewhere around the nation. It is a great church having two services each Sunday, for its 800 people. The church has purchased a larger facility, which they plan to move to after the first of the year.
Last week, we went to the LifeFM 93.1 Christian Radio Station in Cork; we spent time with the staff. Ron encouraged them, and we prayed for them. He plans to do broadcasting from this station after the first of the year. We are very proud of the Christian message going out from Life FM 93.1
Joe and Dory Rohrs (Dory is our daughter) and their children came to Ireland to see us on their way back from their year in Tanzania, East Africa. Their ticket routed them through London so they took a train and then a ferry and came to see us for a visit on their journey back. We loved having them with us and were able to share what we’ve been doing with them and introduce them to our Irish friends. They have now arrived back in San Antonio. Please pray for them as they prayerfully seek the Lord for the next step He has for them.
Last week, Ron was invited to the Cobh Harbour to four huge Commercial Ships (Container and Cargo Ships) to minister to the crews onboard. His host was, Colin Jenkins, the Harbour Chaplain, who works with “Seamen’s Christian Friend Society”, a tremendous ministry witnessing to sailors from all over the world. We were quite pleased in that two of the Captains came into the Galley, as well. I was able to talk at length with them and to pray with them for their families. In Ireland they say that Cobh Harbour (Pronounced “Cove”) is the “second largest natural harbor in the world by navigational area”. Formerly called Queenstown (1850-1920), Cobh is known as the last port of call of the RMS Titanic in April 1912, which went down just four days later.
Pray for us next week, as we go to the Irish Embassy in DC to apply for Residence Visas to stay in Ireland, and as we make plans to go to the UK and to Ethiopia in February. We thank you for your faithfulness to pray for us and to give financially to this ministry.
We thank all of you who have believed in, prayed for and invested in Ron & Christi Bishop and our ministry of Shepherd Shapers over these past 30 plus years. Please note that we will have a more permanent address in Ireland after our return in February.
Sincerely, working in the service of Jesus,
Ron & Christi Bishop
